Davey Turns 1!

I haven't blogged in what seems like forever as I've been busy with my now 1 year old boy!  Where does the time go?

I wanted to document his first birthday party and our theme which turned out just wonderfully, but in getting ready for the party I forgot to take pictures of each detail before people got here. :(

I still wanted to post the pictures for anyone looking for a cute theme for a kids party, specifically a little boy.  We got lucky because my husband happens to work for a construction company who was very generous in letting us borrow road signs, road barrels, road block etc.  This helped to keep the cost of the party low and looking super authentic! :)

Hope you enjoy the photos!

In the above photo you can see the plastic hard hats I gave as favors to each kid with a banner I made hanging above.  They were clipped on twine with mini clothes pins and added to the decor.  The tables we did in yellow and black and had caution tape down the center with balloons and an orange cone as the centerpieces.  I also had little cardboard too boxes sitting around each table.

This is a close up of the favor buckets.  All had a construction theme with road sign suckers, measuring"bubble" tape, a construction toy, construction tattoos, a caution bracelet, and stickers.  Each had custom tags that said "Thanks for coming, I had loads of fun" with a picture of a dump truck

A bulldozer pinata

Again, the hats and favors behind us

In this picture you can see one of the road signs and the cute cookies and juice boxes with a printout that said "fuel" on them

Beautiful Antique Bedroom Set

We haven't been up to many furniture projects this winter, although we have plenty we could work on, but my husband has managed to complete one project that turned out beautifully.  Although we have more time during the winter months to work on projects, the winter causes some problems.  Our garage (my husband's work area) is insulalted and heated, but just doesn't stay as warm as it should when waiting for paint to dry.  This has caused a few problems in getting furniture redone as fast as he does in warmer months.  With this project I let him take the reigns completely.  I usually suggest the way it should be finished and he usually just finishes it according to my directions.  This time he picked the paint color and the way he wanted it to be refinished and it turned out GREAT!  I should trust him to take the design lead more often!

It is a beautiful antique bedroom set that is available for purchase on our etsy site.

New Year, New beginnings

Wow!  How is it already 2015!  The year 2014 was such an excellent year for our family with the addition of out first little baby boy and the journey with our new home, that I can only hope for 2015 to be just as good.

We have a list (an excel sheet) of projects we would like to complete in 2015 thanks to my husband.  2014 brought out the handyman in my husband and we have started many new adventures as his furniture making and woodworking interests deepen.

This year, we started with the renovation of our formal dining room.  It was a room that was basically used as a catchall as we always eat in the dining area in our kitchen and we kind of just put any extra furniture we had  in this room, it became kind of a mish mash of things.  After our baby's first Christmas we decided that a toy room was a necessity!

Here are some before and after pics, of phase 1 of the toy room.  We still have so much to do.  My pinterest boards are full of inspiration and we are just waiting to have the $ and time to complete the next phase!  I will keep you all posted on the progress!

This first picture is after the table had already been moved out, but you can see the room had a bunch of our extra randomly matched furniture in it.

Next Steps include removing the mirror and putting in letters that read, "PLAY" along with some ledges underneath for books.  We will be putting a cushion and pillows on that shelf so it can be a reading area.  On the opposite wall we will have various sensory board, felt board, and chalk board with canvas prints hung about and some sort of area to hang various pieces of his art.  Eventually the carpet will be removed and hardwood floors will be laid with a rug and we will bring in a small loveseat or some comfy chairs.  We have a long way to go, but I'm excited about each little change along the way!

I'll have a post tomorrow showcasing the new items my husband has been working on.  Lots of neat wooden cutouts that will soon be for sale in my etsy shop.

Beautiful Wardrobe

The Wardrobe is Finally Finished and Beautiful!  I would love to keep it, but unfortunately we don't have the room.  I currently have it stored with all of my vintage linens and I just love it.

The wardrobe and most of the linens can be purchased on my etsy site here!

Christmas Home Tour

I am linking up with kellyskornerblog.com and http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com and joining their Christmas Home Tousr.

I have been slacking on the home tours lately so I thought, showing our home decorated for Christmas would show some of the things we have done.  For those of you here for the first time I will give you some quick background.  My husband and I purchased this home, a foreclosure, in complete disrepair last October when I was about 2 months pregnant with our son.  We have put tons of hard work into it, and though it it not yet where we want it to be, we are extremely happy with how far we have come.  We have done almost all of the work ourselves.  Check out some of my previous posts to see before and afters.

In the year that we have had this home we continue to do home renovation projects, refinished antique furniture, (check our or facebook page here), and we have welcomed our first child!

It has been a crazy year and having an 8 month old didn't allow me to decorate as much as I'd like this year, but we are already planning for next year!

Enjoy and Merry CHRISTmas!

Our live tree in our family room...
The beautiful fireplace was built by my dad and brother based off a picture I found on pinterest.  I have been loving cozy nights by the fire already this winter!

The bookcase was a $5 thrifty find!
